Director - Michelle Persian

Michelle is the founding and music director of the Eden Prairie String Academy, which offers lessons, ensembles and string orchestra for students in grades K-12.  Under her direction EPSA orchestras have played in Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, London, Chicago, Iowa and St. Louis. 


She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1994 with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education.  Michelle studied violin with Roger Frisch, Mark Bjork, Helen Foli and William Hayden.  She attended the International String Workshop several summers and has performed in Austria, Norway, Scotland and France.

Upon graduation from the University of Minnestoa in 1994 she was hired to started the string orchestra program for the Eden Prairie Public Schools and held the position until 2000.

This year, Michelle is excited to serve as the orchestra director for the Mount Olivet School of Music.  Starting beginning string students and watching them grow in to accomplished young musicians has been her passion for many years.  

Michelle conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra of the Greater Twin Cities’ Youth Symphonies for 3 seasons including a performance at the Minnesota Music Educator’s Conference showcasing music for the elementary full orchestra.   With GTCYS, Michelle has performed as a violinist in Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Bolivia. 

Michelle has held positions on the faculty at the International Music Camp and Crown College where she taught string techniques, applied lessons and conducting the String Ensemble.

An avid performer, Michelle enjoys freelancing in the Twin Cities area. She played violin and viola with the Rochester Orchestra and Chorale and Green Bay Symphonies.  You can often see Michelle performing at Mt. Olivet for their Easter and Christmas services.   In addition to performing, Michelle maintains a private studio of violin/viola students.

Outside of music, one could say Michelle’s life has gone to the dogs!  She currently has 4 dogs (Popper, Noodle, Bria and Amati) all of which hold AKC Agility Titles.  Michelle regularly competes at the local and national levels with her border collies.  Check out Michelle’s dogs at http://www.youtube.com/thePURPLEPUPPY1  Michelle also runs her own dog training business, Purple Puppy K9 Academy, where she presents seminars, classes and private lessons.  Michelle has presented seminars in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, North Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and Georgia.Up
